What is considered good marksmanship?

Good marksmanship is defined as the ability to hit a target accurately and consistently. This means not only that the shooter can place shots on target but that they can do so repeatedly under various conditions. Accuracy refers to how close the shots are to the intended point of aim, while consistency involves the shooter's ability to replicate that accuracy over multiple shots.

When a shooter demonstrates good marksmanship, they showcase not only their skill in aiming but also their control over the firearm and their ability to remain calm and focused. The combination of accuracy and consistency is what ultimately leads to effective shooting, whether for hunting, sport, or self-defense.

In contrast, while hitting the target quickly and adjusting sights are important skills, they do not alone guarantee good marksmanship. Being able to shoot quickly may not result in an accurate shot, and adjusting sights does not inherently reflect a shooter's ability to hit the target reliably over time. Therefore, the comprehensive nature of good marksmanship encompasses both accurate and consistent shooting.
